Interlinguals is a unique company offering a unique internship. Interlinguals is a young internet startup with an innovative approach to working together, community building, attention to the interns and life during and after working hours! We set ourselves the goal to become the global marketplace for language study. This online and offline community connects anyone who wishes to learn a language to anyone who teaches a language. So any student, business person, traveler or lover who wants to learn or improve a language (Interlinguals student) can take lessons with private independent individuals (Interlinguals teachers) or an established partner institution (Interlinguals language school). The lessons can take place in the student's or teacher's home or home town, online or abroad.

--General description for interns (the specific IT tasks are covered after this-- Interlinguals understands that an internship is a two-way offer rather than getting cheap labour for uninteresting tasks. 
We want to offer an internship with high level of attention to the intern's objectives, creating relevant work experience, while having a good time during and outside work. This includes a clear comprehension of each others needs with a clear structure (and reasonable room for improvement), mutual respect and genuine guidance before, during and after the internship, including the requirements set by your educational institution. 
Interlinguals works on motivating, fun and comfortable work spots rather than old-fashioned offices
Good coffee, nice teas, music, lounge seats rather than a boring office with bad light and cubes.

--Specific Tasks-- 
This internship can start in September 2013 and end in January 2014 (contact us through Europe-Internship in case you want to be an intern in a different period!) Much of the tasks described below are setting up or improve website features and maintain them. All are open to discussion. We can discuss to add/remove/change tasks depending on what you as an intern or internship coordinator think are manageable. 

Set-up booking system:
-create additional profile field for user's available dates to meet 
-include user availability as option in search 
-make available days bookable with connection to web shop
-show date selection in separate box next to message stream and in other steps of the booking process

Check functionality of the current website: 
repair or replace where necessary. If you can, you can create your own code to improve the current functionality and set up new options that the website needs! This includes:
-connecting to social networks (including automatic updates of posts to Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
-SEO strategy
-set-up and maintain landing pages & connect to main website
-set-up and maintain a monthly newsletter
-set-up and maintain welcome email
-create user rules to search specific user profile fields
-change displayed picture size of user profiles on the search map
-occasionally modify user profile field

Website structure and content:
-(re)structure website where necessary

-set-up and maintain teacher pages
-set-up and maintain school pages
-set-up and maintain material pagesWhen it comes to content of pages, newsletters, etc. the content manager and the rest of your colleagues. 

-set-up and maintain a mobile page
-set-up and maintain anti-SPAM & sploggers program/plugin

-set-up and maintain team user accounts (email, server, Interlinguals profile, etc.)
-assist team and community users with light IT-issues

In general we like to work as a team. You can join team meetings, events, parties, flash-mobs, videos and other editing/translating, creative, promotional and other team activities as much as you can and want!

Intern requirements: IT student or student with other relevant background who is passionate about IT and dedicated to work in a young, dynamic team in an internet start-up that wants to deliver a unique service while having a professional experience with a fun team that wants to have a great time as well!

Much of the tasks described below are setting up or improve website features and maintain them. All are open to discussion. We can discuss to add/remove/change tasks depending on what you as an intern or internship coordinator think are manageable. 

We are looking for an intern that knows Wordpress, Buddypress and its plugins or wants to learn this. OR for someone who wants to write or rewrite website code by himself, depending on your education and experience! 

basic skills which include adjusting HTML & CSS (not writing it from scratch). A general understanding of search engine optimization is of advantage. Language skills: a good communicating level English (fluent) as most of the internal and external communication with colleagues, teachers, students, schools and editors from all over the world will be in English. Any additional language is a big plus!
