We are currently conducting research on small-scale fisheries and aquaculture and are looking for a dynamic early-career professional to join us for a 4-month assignment starting in January 2025. If you’re passionate about making a real-world impact in seafood sustainability, this role is for you!
The Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) is a global public-private partnership dedicated to addressing seafood sustainability challenges. With more than 90 stakeholders spanning the seafood value chain—companies, NGOs, governments, and international organizations—GSSI fosters collaboration to drive forward more sustainable seafood for everyone and preserve our aquatic resources for the future.
Werkzaamheden
As our Intern, you will be at the forefront of an exciting research initiative. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct interviews and desktop research to collect qualitative and quantitative data.
- Data Analysis: Analyse primary and secondary data sources to uncover trends, barriers, and opportunities.
- Case Studies: Develop in-depth regional case studies on small-scale fisheries and aquaculture across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
- Synthesis and Reporting: Draft a structured report summarizing key insights and trends, alongside actionable recommendations.
- Contribute to a comprehensive final report and policy brief aimed at driving meaningful change in seafood sustainability.
Gewenste profiel
Skills and Experience
- Possesses a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in fisheries, aquaculture, environmental sciences, or sustainability.
- Adept in research, analysis, and report writing, with strong attention to detail.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages like Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Arabic are a plus.
- Proficient in Excel and other analytical tools or software.
- Familiar with topics related to seafood certification, small-scale fisheries, and aquaculture.

Employment Details
Type: Internship contract (4 months)
Location: Remote / Hybrid
Timeline: January 6, 2025 – May 6, 2025
Application Deadline: December 15, 2024 (EOD, CET time)
Compensation: This is a paid internship with a monthly stipend of €1,200. Commute expenses will be reimbursed, if applicable.
As this is a remote/hybrid position, you should have access to a reliable workspace, a laptop, and any necessary arrangements to perform your tasks effectively.
